What is counselling?
Counselling is a talking therapy that can help people deal with any issues or problems in their life; be it current or past, that is affecting them. It is a safe way of dealing with any issues such as addictions, abuse, anger, bereavement, eating disorders, and lack of confidence, relationships and stress, to name a few. There are lots of different types of therapy, some of which you may have heard of such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). It maybe that you will require a few different types of therapies through your counselling sessions, and this is why I use a client centred integrated approach and tailor your therapy to you.
I believe we are all individual and counselling should be as well. Counselling will enable you to deal with any issues or problems that are affecting you at present and helping you make the changes that you need to achieve your goal.
How does Counselling work?
We would have an initial consultation to discuss your requirements and from that, we would agree how many sessions are needed and have a plan to work towards. Each session is 45 minutes to an hour. Normally, they are carried out weekly, but this is variable depending on your needs and availability. A rough guide is about 6-10 sessions, again this is as individual as you are.
What do I need to do?
Contact me and take the first step. All I ask is that you are honest with me, as this will help us to work towards your goal and address your issue or problem. Other than talking, you may be set some tasks (homework) to do before your next session but that depends on the type of therapy you have.
How will I feel?
You may at the start of counselling therapy feel emotional as we discuss things, however this is perfectly normal. As the sessions progress, you will feel more confident and able to see the progress you have made. The satisfaction you will feel at the end of the therapy having reached your goal or be on top of your problem, is priceless.
“I am so glad that I found Philippa! She ‘got’ me right from the first consultation and was able to tailor an effective programme of therapies that would work best for me. I have been so inspired by her as a person and her knowledge. I am feeling very empowered and am already enjoying a much happier life. I can’t thank Philippa enough.”
My thanks to Philippa who was amazing. Her patience and guidance helped me through an extremely difficult time. Very professional. I cannot recommend Philippa and her services enough. Definitely recommend her without a doubt. Thank you Philippa so much.
I have been seeing Philippa for about 4 months now, and I can honestly say that she is helping me to change my life out of all recognition. She has helped me identify and come to terms with several events waaaay back in the past, which, although apparently forgotten have contributed to my lifelong battle with depression.
I am now moving forward in so many ways, both personally and professionally, and feel happier with who I am than I can ever remember. Connecting with myself is also helping me develop much better relationships, in particular with my children, as well as reconnecting with old friends and new.
Philippa says I’ve done the work myself, but she is amazing in helping me and giving me the tools I need to do so, and I honestly don’t think I could have gotten so far without her help.
Thank You doesn’t even begin to cover it Philippa.
